"Hello, I'm Becky McClenaghan,
I'm a root cause nutritionist, certified yoga instructor, avid cyclist, environmentalist, adventurer and devoted animal lover, particularly of dogs.
My journey into health and wellness began in childhood with unresolved IBS issues, which remained undiagnosed until my mid-20s. Despite experimenting with traditional medications and adjusting my diet to avoid specific foods, relief remained elusive, leading to bewilderment and frustration. The realisation that anxiety could contribute to and exacerbate IBS symptoms was a profound moment of clarity for me. This discovery sparked my curiosity about the intricate factors influencing our gut health, prompting me to take charge of my well-being; and after my father's cancer battle and passing, I committed myself to explore naturopathic healthcare and to deepen my knowledge of food science by enrolling in the College of Naturopathic Medicine (CNM) diploma course in Edinburgh.
Opting for CNM was a natural choice, given their extensive clinic hours, aligning perfectly with my eagerness to actively participate in learning while contributing to helping others.
Juggling a full-time consultancy job, I immersed myself in the rigorous three-year diploma. Despite the challenges, I embraced studying during lunch breaks and evenings, driven by my passion for the subject. The initial year focused on biomedicine (fortunately, my background is science), while the subsequent years delved into the nutritional aspects of food and their therapeutic potential for various conditions.
Since working with clients, uncovering the roots of their health issues, and guiding them toward improved well-being are aspects of my profession that I genuinely cherish. Completing the course in 2017 fuelled my desire to share nutritional knowledge, fostering clarity and reducing confusion about our health. The three-year journey into nutrition stands as the most rewarding decision I've ever made and brings the greatest results."
